What should we do with TSPDT’s Greatest Films: 1001-2000?

We’d like your opinion on what to do with TSPDT 1001-2000. Please read the following background before you vote at the bottom of this post.

The website of They Shoot Pictures, Don’t They? used to have a page to highlight numbers 1001 to 2000 of the Greatest Films list. We decided then to adopt that as an official iCM list. With the most recent update of the Greatest Films, that page was discontinued. We asked Bill, the guy behind TSPDT, if the page would be back. He said no, because he now lists the complete list so anyone can see what’s beyond number 1000. So there’s no highlighting the next 1000 anymore with a dedicated page. However, Bill has a new way of highlighting movies beyond 1000. In the full spreadsheet, he marks 1001-2500 with a light blue color (1-1000 are dark blue). Also, on director pages he marks movies that are in the top 2500. As you can see here for example, movies in the top 1000 are marked with a star and movies in the rest of the top 2500 are marked with a dot.

A case can be made to expand our current list to 1001-2500, because that’s his new way of highlighting movies beyond 1000. You can also make a case to stick with 1001-2000, because that’s what we initially adopted and the new way of highlighting is not the same thing as before. Or one might say the source we adopted disappeared, so our list has no ground for remaining official anymore.

  • Expand it to 1001-2500, because that’s what highlighted now on TSPDT’s website.
  • Stick with 1001-2000, because that’s what we originally adopted.
  • Make the list unofficial, because the source no longer exists.
  • I don’t care either way.

Decision has been made. We’ll expand the list to 1001-2500.
